iOS · SAFARI + SHORTCUT
Save X videoson iPhone.
iOS makes downloading awkward on purpose. This page is the way around it: Safari for the one-off, the Shortcut when you do it often enough to resent the extra taps.

01 · SHARE
Copy the post link
In the X app, tap Share → Copy Link. In Safari, copy the address bar.
02 · PASTE
Long-press the field
iOS blocks automatic clipboard reads, so long-press and choose Paste. That is one tap, not a bug.
03 · SAVE
Download → Files
Safari drops it in Downloads. Open Files, then Share → Save Video to move it into Photos.
Why iPhone needs its own instructions
Safari does not treat a video download like a desktop browser does — it hands the file to the Downloads folder in Files rather than asking where to put it, and nothing appears in Photos until you move it there. That single step is what most people are missing when they say the download did not work.
The Shortcut removes the round trip entirely: share a post from the X app directly into it and the file is fetched and saved without a browser. Install it once from the link in the footer, then it lives in your share sheet.
Questions
- Why does the video open instead of downloading?
- Safari previews some MP4s inline. Long-press the download button and choose Download Linked File to force the save.
- Where did my file go?
- Files → Downloads, on your iPhone. To get it into Photos, open it there and use Share → Save Video.
- Do I need the Shortcut?
- No, Safari alone works. The Shortcut just cuts it to one tap from the X app's share sheet.
