How to download X (Twitter) videos with XDL
X (Twitter) is where clips live and die in the same afternoon. XDL is built for one job: turn a public post into a file you own — video or audio — without watermarks, login walls on downloads, or a maze of “wait 15 seconds.”
This is the short path from paste to file on xdl.to.
What you need
- A public X post that has video (or audio worth keeping)
- The post URL from x.com or twitter.com
- About ten seconds and a modern browser
You do not need an XDL account to download. Sign in with X only if you want full playback in the den, a library, favorites, and history.
Step-by-step: grab a single clip
- Open the post on X. Tap Share → Copy link (or copy the URL from the address bar).
- Go to xdl.to. Paste the link into the hero box.
- Choose MP4 for video with sound, or MP3 for audio only.
- Hit Grab it. XDL validates the link, reads the media, and takes you to the grab screen.
- On video grabs, pick a quality if options appear, then Download. Open the file when it’s ready — it lands on your device, not on our servers.
MP4 vs MP3 (pick once, not twice)
MP4 is the default for almost every clip: sports, memes, product demos, news. You get picture and sound in a format that opens everywhere.
MP3 when the picture is optional — interviews, music drops, Spaces-style talk you want offline. Same paste flow; different format chip before you grab.
Bulk: many links, one queue
Need a whole thread or a folder of bookmarks? Flip Bulk mode on the home paste box, drop one URL per line, and queue them. XDL processes the batch so you are not babysitting each clip. (If Pro mode is ever enabled on your deploy, bulk may sit behind a plan — freemium gates at desire, not mid-playback.)
Watch vs download
Downloads stay free and ungated. Watching in-player is intentionally gated behind Sign in with X so the den can keep a personal library, history, and a calmer playback experience. Paste → grab still works logged out.
When a grab fails
- Private or protected posts cannot be fetched — only public media.
- Deleted or region-blocked posts fail validation; try again later or from another network only if the post is still public.
- Intermittent X-side cookie or CDN blips happen. Retry once. If it still fails, the post may not expose a downloadable stream.
Respect the creators
XDL is a tool. You are responsible for what you save: your own posts, licensed material, and clips you have permission to keep. We block DRM-protected media. When in doubt, ask the creator or don’t archive it.
The den rule
Paste. Pick a format. Grab. No countdown theater, no watermark branding on your file. That is XDL — an X video downloader built for people who actually use the clips they save.
Paste an x.com link — free download, no watermark.
