The Osprey's rotors are the wrong size on purpose. The ship picked their diameter. To fit on an amphibious ship, the rotors have to fold and the wing has to stow, all in about 90 seconds. That caps each rotor at 38 ft across, roughly 5 ft smaller than optimal for hovering. Same
