The melody of "Lambada" originated with the 1981 song "Llorando se fue" by the Bolivian group Los Kjarkas. Kaoma's 1989 version combined Portuguese lyrics adapted from the Brazilian hit "Chorando Se Foi" (recorded by Márcia Ferreira and adapted by Márcia Ferreira and José Ari)
